Turn Off the Locator Bar on a Server
A hosted Java world needs operator or console access. Paste the version-correct gamerule in the host console. Client chat fails if you are not OP.
Current for Java hosted worlds on 1.21.6 and later.
You cannot turn the bar off from a survival chat box unless you are an operator. Open the host console (Aternos, Realms, or any panel that exposes one) and run the Java gamerule there.
What to paste
Match the server version, not the client version you remember from last year.
| Server version | Console line | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1.21.11+ | gamerule locator_bar false | Current Java name; drop the leading slash in some consoles |
| 1.21.6–1.21.10 | gamerule locatorBar false | First release name |
If the console already prefixes commands, paste only the gamerule ... half. If it wants a slash, add one.
Hosts this covers
Aternos, Realms, Paper, Fabric, and a friend’s dedicated box all accept the same rule once someone can run commands. The panel button names differ. The command does not.
If you do not have console or OP, ask the host. A resource pack cannot disable the vanilla bar for the whole server.
Bedrock Realms and Bedrock servers
Those are not this page. Use Turn Off Player Waypoints on Minecraft Bedrock.
After it works
Everyone on that world loses the strip. Players who only wanted to hide themselves should use How to Hide from the Locator Bar instead of asking you to disable it for the whole server.
